Phrase pairs: the meaning is the contrast

EB Garamond + Jost

Set the headline in EB Garamond, a serif by Georg Duffner and Octavio Pardo, and the text under it in Jost, a sans serif by Owen Earl.

A serif over a sans serif keeps the two roles apart by shape, so the pair still reads clearly at small sizes.

Syncopate + Rozha One

Set the headline in Syncopate, a sans serif by Astigmatic, and the text under it in Rozha One, a serif by Indian Type Foundry.

A sans serif over a serif keeps the two roles apart by shape, so the pair still reads clearly at small sizes.

Bungee + Yeseva One

Set the headline in Bungee, a display by David Jonathan Ross, and the text under it in Yeseva One, a display by Jovanny Lemonad.

Both are displays, so the contrast has to come from size and weight: keep the headline big and the text at a comfortable reading size.

Gloock + Space Mono

Set the headline in Gloock, a serif by Duarte Pinto, and the text under it in Space Mono, a monospace by Colophon Foundry.

A serif over a monospace keeps the two roles apart by shape, so the pair still reads clearly at small sizes.

Lora + Epilogue

Set the headline in Lora, a serif by Cyreal, and the text under it in Epilogue, a sans serif by Tyler Finck and ETC.

A serif over a sans serif keeps the two roles apart by shape, so the pair still reads clearly at small sizes.

Spectral + Hanken Grotesk

Set the headline in Spectral, a serif by Production Type, and the text under it in Hanken Grotesk, a sans serif by Alfredo Marco Pradil and Hanken Design Co..

A serif over a sans serif keeps the two roles apart by shape, so the pair still reads clearly at small sizes.
